The Bobcats finished their season with a 20-12 record overall and a 13-5 record against conference teams. They finished tied with Akron but lost the tiebreaker. They entered the tournament in the quarterfinal round and drew a matchup with Western Michigan, the conference's No. 6 seed. They took them down with ease 82-55 on the back of 15 points from Shereef Mitchell. Miles Brown and Jaylin Hunter also had 13 points each behind Mitchell. Two separate players had 11 rebounds each but neither could pull together the double-double.

The Zips finished their season with a 22-10 record overall and a 13-5 record against conference teams. They ended their season with a loss against Western Michigan and used that as momentum heading into their quarterfinal matchup with Miami (OH).

They ended up winning that game 75-63 with Enrique Freeman leading the way dropping 30 points on a very efficient 13-of-16 shooting. He also had a team-high 12 rebounds for the team's only double-double of the night. Ali Ali had 14 points as the only other player in double figures.
